What does a website cost? The 7 factors that set the price
Why there's no one-size-fits-all price – and how to compare quotes without comparing apples to oranges.
"What does a website cost?" is the most common question – and the honest answer is: it depends. That's not an excuse. These seven factors decide where your project lands.
1. Scope
A single page with a contact form is a different job from a site with ten pages, a blog and references. The more content, the more planning, design and build work.
2. Design: template or custom
An adapted template is quicker. A fully custom design takes more time, but fits your brand exactly.
3. Copy and images
Do you already have good copy and real photos? If not, they have to be created – and that's often the biggest time sink.
4. Features
Contact form, appointment booking, online shop, sign-up: every feature needs setup and testing.
5. Languages
A second or third language isn't just translation – structure, URLs and upkeep have to be planned for.
6. Search engine basics
Clean structure, speed and fitting content should be there from the start – adding them later is more work.
7. Care after launch
Updates, backups, security and small changes are ongoing tasks. Clarify who takes them on.
How to compare quotes
For every quote ask: What's included? Will I own the website in the end? Who looks after it after launch? A cheap price without care can end up costing more than a fair price with support.
